Abstract

This study explores “The Ascension and the Transformation of Human Nature: The Anthropology of Daily Ascension” within the context of Rwandan spirituality and catechetical formation. Its primary objective is to investigate how the belief in Christ’s Ascension influences anthropological perspectives, interpersonal relationships, and moral transformation in Rwandan Catholic communities. The hypothesis guiding the research is that a deepened understanding of the Ascension fosters a reconciliatory, dignity-affirming anthropology, especially when integrated into catechetical teaching and daily spiritual practice. A qualitative-quantitative method was employed, involving a structured questionnaire and focus group discussions with 39 undergraduate students in Catechesis and Religious Studies at the Catholic University of Rwanda. Thematic analysis was combined with basic statistical interpretation. Findings reveal that 87% of respondents perceive the Ascension as a source of hope and moral elevation; 74% link it directly to reconciliation and healing in post-genocide Rwanda; 92% affirmed that the glorification of the human body and soul through the Ascension strengthens love and respect for human dignity. 89 % reported the transformative power of seeing others “through God’s eyes,” and how this view fosters communal healing, justice, and peace. 100% reported that the symbolic embodiment of Christ’s glorified body is a theological resource for affirming both the sacredness of the human body and the call to ethical living. In conclusion, the study scientifically demonstrates that teaching the Ascension as a lived anthropology, grounded in ubuntu, divine dignity, and communal transformation, enhances catechetical effectiveness and deepens the moral consciousness of believers, especially in contexts of social reconciliation and spiritual formation.
